Myanmar

Myanmar is situated in South East Asia and it is flanked by two greatest civilizations of the world, China and India, and the Andaman Sea in the south. Precisely, it has borders with Thailand in the east, Laos in the northeast, and China in the north, and India in the northwest, and Bangladesh in the west with an area of 678,528 square miles and a population of about 52 million.

Foreigners call Myanmar the Golden Land not only because of golden pagodas, but also the warmth, generosity, cordiality and smiles of Myanmar people. Being a Buddhist country, Myanmar is dotted with pagodas and temples. Myanmar is worth visiting because of great historical value, rich cultural & nature heritage and unique daily life style. It is an ideal country for fanciers of flora, fauna and tropical trees and flowers.

Myanmar is really a mecca for tourists, because it is a mountainous country which abounds numerous tourist destinations like the Shwedagon pagoda, over 2000 years old stupa in metropolis Yangon, over 3000 ancient stupas & temples in Archaeological Bagan, wooden architectural in Mandalay, unique lifestyle in Inle lake, amazing Golden Rock Pagoda in Mon State and silvery beaches like the world famous Ngapali Beach, the Pleasant Beach, the Ngwe Saung Beach and the Chaung Tha Beach.

Myanmar enjoys monsoon climate with three distinct seasons-the winter, the summer, and the rainy season. There are twelve festivals in a year. The most boisterous one is Thingyan or Water Festival, which usually falls on the 13th and terminates on the 15th or 16th of April every year. You should not miss it, if chance permits you.

Yangon

Yangon is the capital of Myanmar (Burma) with evergreen trees, old colonial buildings and pagodas. Yangon is one of the most attractive cities in the East. It combines the mystery and religious charm of the East with all the modern facilities of the west. The number one place of sightseeing interest for tourist is Shwedagon pagoda, the world largest golden massive stupa. Other attractions are Botahtaung pagoda, Sule pagoda, Chaukhtatgyi reclining Buddha image. National museum and Bogyoke Aung San Market, Scott Market. Yangon has more colonial buildings with magnificent architecture left in good condition than any other city in Asia. Other places worth-seeing in the environs of Yangon are Thanlyin and Twantay.

Mandalay

Mandalay is the second largest city of Myanmar and capital of last Myanmar king, Thibaw. So, it is the heart of Myanmar culture and Buddhism. Mahamuni Buddha Image, world biggest book, Kuthodaw Pagoda, Mandalay Palace, Golden Palace Monastery and about 1 mile old U Bein teak wood bridge are most interesting places in Mandalay. Amarapura, Inwa, Sagaing and Mingun are very closed to Mandalay.

Bagan

Bagan is one of the most richest archaeological sites in Asia and main tourist attraction site of Myanmar. It is covered with over 2000 pagodas. At Bagan, the three arts of 10th to 13 rd century painting, sculpture and architecture should be view one stop. It is on the eastern bank of the Ayeyarwaddy river, 193 km south of the Mandalay. Shwezigone Stupa, Ananda Temple, Thatbyinnyu Temple and Dhamayangyi Temple are the best attraction sites in Bagan. Bagan is also noted for Myanmar lacquerware industrial. Bagan-sunset is very peaceful and Bagan-marionette show is also very amazing for all tourists to Bagan.

Bago

It stood as a royal capital of Mon Kingdom ( 151 century ) in the history of Myanmar. It is one of the archaeological sites of Myanmar. The places of interest in Bago are Shwemawdaw pagoda, Shwethalyaung reclining Buddha image, Four faces pagoda, Mahazedi and Kanbawzathadi palace.

Kyaikhtiyo ( Golden Rock )

It is one of the amazing sites on the world. It is in Mon state, south east of Yangon. A huge boulder with a small pagoda on top balances at the edge of a deep cliff over 1100 km above sea level is called Golden Rock Pagoda. It was built 2500 years ago and never came out of the balance although it had faced many powerful earthquakes.

Pyay

It is located on the eastern bank of the Ayeyarwaddy river, 90 km north-west of Yangon. Tourist attractions in Pyay are Shewsandaw pagoda, Akauktaung and Sriketra, an ancient City of Pyu era during the period of AD-300 to 1000.

Inlay

Unique and magical lake which was surrounded by the blue mountains about 900 meters above sea level is called Inle lake. It is 22 km long and 10 km wide. Inlay is famous for its leg-rower standing at the stem of a slender boat and rowing with one leg, floating villages, colorful floating market, the magnificent Phaung Daw Oo pagoda and Nga Phe Chaung Monastery ( Jumping-Cat Monastery). The lake-dwellers (Innthas) earn their living by fishing in the lake, farming on the floating garden and weaving by hand looms. Taunggyi is the capital and Kakku Pagoda, Kalaw hill station and Pindaya cave are also interesting places in the environs of Inlay in Shan State.

Bhamaw

Bhamaw is located south of Myitkyina. The third defile of Ayeyarwaddy River is 22 miles long near Bhamaw. The Ayeyarwaddy cruises run from Bhamaw to Mandalay. Visiting along the third defile of Ayeyarwaddy by bamboo-raft is very peaceful as a discovery tour.

Myitkyina

It is the capital of Kachin State in the southern part of Myanmar. The most beautiful place of Myintkyina is Myint-son, the confluence of the Mehka and Malihka rivers, 43km north of Myitkyina, the source of Ayeyarwady river. The biggest natural lake, Indawgyi and Hpakan jade mine are North-west of Myintkyina. Some old churches and memorial places of WWII are vicinity of Myitkyina. In the morning market, many hill tribe people can be seen haggling over the large variety of fruit.

Mrauk Oo

It was found in 1443 A-D. It remains as a major archaeological site of Rakhine Nation. Mrauk Oo is known for it's old massive Rakhine temples and stone sculptures with painting. Koethaung Temple, Shitthaung Temple and Htukkanthein Pagoda are very noted for stone sculptures. Some women still tattoo their faces, through it's a custom, along the Lay Men river near Mrauk Oo.

Kyinetong

It is 163 km north of the border town of Tachileik (opposite Mae Sai, Thailand) in the eastern Shan State. It is surrounded by Wa, Shan, Akha, Laha and Palaung villages, 787 m above the sea level. The main attraction of Kengtong are colorful hill ethnic groups. Akha-black-teeths women, Palaung women and lahu people have their own different culture. Their believe and custom are very ancient and different from the other part of Myanmar. Some old stupas & temples, the British-era Roman Catholic Mission (RCM) and daily water buffalo market are also interesting points in Kyinetong.

Chin State

It lies on the north-west of Mandalay. Hakha is the capital of Chin State. It is one of the eco-tourism sites in Myanmar. The highest Mt. Victoria is 3108 meters above sea level. Tattooing on the faces of women is traditional custom of Chin races. The true heart of traditional Chin cultural is found at Mindut in the south. All of the Chin villages are among of the forest hills.

Putao

It is situated at the northern extremely part ofMyanmar. It is sometimes called The Switzerland of Myanmar because of its snow-capped mountain around the town. In this region Mount Hkakaborazi ( 5889 meters) is the highest peak in Myanmar and also in southeast Asia. It is the best place for hiking and mountaineering. There are plenty of exotic plants and animals. In the Hakaborazi National park, a new specie of deer was discovered by Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS) of New York and Myanmar Forestry Department.

Naga New Year Featival

Naga hill region is one of the famous tourism destinations in Myanmar. Naga hill lies in the north- west of Myanmar near India border. The snow-capped Mt.Saramati on Naga hill is 3,828m high. Khamti is the most famous town of Naga land. The traditional customs and religious beliefs of the Naga tribes have not died out till today yet. Naga Traditional New Year Festival is annually celebrated on 14 & 15 January. All kinds of colorful Naga tribes can be see in Naga Festival.

Mteik (Merqui) Archipelago

It is situated in the southern part of Myanmar. About 862 km to the South of Yangon. Myeik archipelago includes over 800 islands. Mteik Archipelago is the most beautiful and diverse marine eco-systems in Myanmar. It is one of the world's top ten dive sites. Diving trip with a choice of many amazing unexplored dive sites are available. In addition, other interesting places such as Lampi Marine Biological Park, Salone Villages (known as the Sea gypsies ) and Shwe Kyun ( Runel Island).
